Food is essential in providing energy and improving our strength to perform the day’s activities. But for children living in impoverished regions in the Philippines, often they only have one or two meals at most in a day, which must last them an entire day traveling to and from school.
This is a reality Outsourcing Angel and our partner organisations aims to change. Through our outreach feeding programs, we can provide healthy and delicious meals to tribal families in remote areas in the country to help reduce the incidence of malnutrition among children and help them perform better in school.
On September 16 to 19, Outsourcing Angel and Tribu ni Bro set out for a four-day outreach activity for the benefit of the Kinabuan Tribe in the province of Rizal. On the morning of September 16, our group traveled for three hours from Quezon City going to Cogeo, Antipolo in Rizal. From there, our team took a 4×4 ride going to the town San Ysiro for another three hours. Our group had to walk for another hour to reach the site of the first activity, where we were met by a crowd of eager faces. Our team provided meals for the residents for two days, which was followed by a series of fun activities and a storytelling session.
On September 18, our team walked for another three hours going to the location of the second activity in Tayabasan, where we fed the children for another two days and prepared the same round of activities to entertain them.
We were happy to have fed 200 children and 75 adults during this four-day activity. Food supply is the main concern of the Kinabuan Tribe. With not enough access to food, families have to manage with only two meals a day.
Access to healthy and adequate meals can be a challenge for tribal communities living in remote areas, and this causes malnutrition among children. For this reason, we at Outsourcing Angel are working together with our partners to continue with our feeding programs and slowly fight the damaging effects of malnutrition.
