Back-to-school season can be exciting for most children. But in certain parts of the world, families are struggling to provide the basic school supplies their kids need in order to perform well in school. For this reason, Outsourcing Angel partnered with Tribu ni Bro for an outreach activity to provide the children of the Itneg Tribe in the province of Abra essential school supplies.

On May 26, our volunteers set out on their 12-hour journey from Manila to Sitio Vera, Barangay Sabangan, Abra aboard a 4×4 pick-up. Upon arrival, the group had to travel for another three hours on rough roads going up to the mountain and hiked through the area for another hour before getting to the site.

But the long journey was well worth it. The program began with a magic show to entertain the children, followed by a short storytelling activity where the children shared a story from the Bible and a film-viewing session.

Each of the 290 Itneg children received one backpack containing a complete set of school supplies: 10 notebooks, a pack of bond papers, assorted coloured papers, pad papers of different sizes, a plastic envelope, short folders, a set of crayons, pens and pencils, a pencil case, sharpener, ruler, a pair of scissors and glue.

view Our team also held a feeding program participated by 300 people, children and adults alike.

The community is also seeking financial assistance that will help them repair their school building so they can make the classroom environment more conducive to learning. Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces filled our hearts with happiness. We know how education can break the cycle of poverty, and with programs like these we can help these children take a step in the right direction.
