Our Director, Linh Podetti talks to her awesome VA, Wendy Villar. Wendy started in the company as a casual writer and she was able to work her way up to become Outsourcing Angel’s General Manager. Wendy now takes on tasks that Linh used to do, giving Linh more time to spend with her family and take time off to travel without having to worry about her business.

They talk about their dynamics, Wendy’s tasks and how Linh has trained her to do more tasks throughout the years. They also share some tips on how to have an amazing VA of your own.

What are Wendy’s roles and responsibilities?

Since becoming the manager, she has been overseeing recruitment and various parts of the finance department. The first thing Wendy does each day is to make sure that Outsourcing Angel’s daily operations are running smoothly and that OA is on top of any arising issues. She then helps to ensure clients are happy and more than satisfied with their VAs. Apart from that, she also sees to it that all the VAs are content and able to do their work efficiently. Wendy even goes above and beyond her role, whenever needed.

How did Wendy transition into this role?
Linh started her off by teaching her how to select possible VAs by going through resumes. Once she saw that Wendy could perform this task on her own. Linh asked her to observe how she would interview VAs, and assist in Client/VA interviews. Instructions and pointers were given to Wendy to guide her along the way. Linh then sat back and observed while Wendy did the interviewing herself, Wendy was soon left to complete tasks on her own as Linh was certain that she could already handle the tasks.
How can one ensure VA success?

Set expectations and guidelines from the very beginning to guarantee that their job gets done the way you expect it to be. Check on your VA regularly to make sure work is consistently good and constantly improving. Do not be afraid to give them additional roles as time goes by.

Loyalty

Just like in any other company, an employee will remain loyal to his or her employer for a number of reasons. Wendy has stayed with Outsourcing Angel because she knows that Linh and the rest of the OA team believes in what she can do and values what she does.

Though she has proven herself, she is still given room for error and the company understands and supports her when she isn’t at her best. She is also highly appreciative of the fact that employees are given room for improvement and the chance to work their way up.

Wendy loves that the work environment in Outsourcing Angel, being one wherein you feel like equals, regardless of the fact that others have bigger roles than most. Linh makes sure that her employees feel like they work WITH her as opposed to FOR her.

Advice for clients

Outsourcing Angel VAs all have the necessary work experience and we do our best to match the most suitable VA for each client.  It is also important for clients to take time to talk to their VA about how they want things done as this can differ from client to client.

Start with small tasks then move onto bigger responsibilities as you see fit. Let them ease into their new duties and in no time, they will be doing it efficiently on their own.  Freeing you from the task so you can focus on other areas of your business.

Each VA is unique and have their own strengths.  They may not always start as the best VA but with proper guidance, clear and constant communication, plus a little patience, you will definitely have the VA of your dreams.  He or she will make your life easier and help you and your business achieve its full potential by doing the required tasks while you focus on more important matters.
