Another insightful episode has been aired by Kirby courtesy of Outsourcing Angel. This episode’s guest is none other than one of Outsourcing Angel’s long-standing VAs, Aya Arabe. From there, they discussed her humble beginnings as a child who wished for a bright future, to feeling all-around disappointed from a major setback. Most of you may know how hard it is to get a decent job if you are an undergraduate and you’re looking to be employed in the traditional route. But fate was kind to her and showed her that all was not lost and that a good future is still ahead even in her situation. It was then that she discovered online careers and began working as a VA!

Aya is now a VA with 6 years under her belt. With acknowledgments of her effort and service that range from heartfelt messages of thanks to material gifts, it only shows how working online has proven to be a fruitful venture for this VA.  With that in mind, we tried to pick her mind to learn what mindset she has, as well as her tips for clients and aspiring VAs. She shared two of the most important things she values in a client/VA relationship.

The first of her tips to having a great client /VA relationship is communication.

It’s no secret that a successful and lasting relationship stems from communication. Good communication is very important for both personal and business relationships. Most clients tend to just unload tasks to their VAs without leaving behind proper explanations or instructions. While most VAs tend to just keep to themselves instead of asking for clarifications on certain complicate tasks. If you, as a VA, feel that such situations are familiar, then it’s about time to shape up and start communicating with your client. As for clients, leaving behind instructions about what to do, what not to do, and where to reach you for urgent messages will make for a more efficient working system for your VA.

The next tip for a successful client/VA relationship is to take the initiative.

The goal is to not just be a worker in the team but to be a valuable member of the team. To be a valuable member of the team, it will take effort and initiative. This means that you have to bring value to your work whether it’s the most mundane of tasks to the most sensitive of tasks. Get to know your client better and his/her business. Learn the business’ vision, mission and goals to see if you have skills worth adding to the pool or if you feel that there is something you can train for to help attain the business’ goals.

This also means that you should not just stay put to where you are in your career, but you should aspire to reach greater heights. One thing to do that is to acquire more skills. With a variety of free and paid tutorials for marketing, website development, and other skills for VAs, leveling up as a VA is possible.

There you have it! Our Angel Aya’s top two tips for being a proactive VA which are surefire ways to make any VA – Seasoned and aspiring alike – An indispensable part of a client’s team.
