What are you looking for in a job?
Many of us would probably find the word “stability” climbing up as one of our top three things in mind.
Stability plays an important part when it comes to finding a job and career to settle in for the long term.
Though it cannot be generalised as something that everyone wants (yes, there are still a lot of people who want to try different things during their lifetime), but it is simply something everyone needs.
Stability almost always gets associated with some major things in our lives – either a job or a relationship – two things we normally desire for the long term. After all, it is normal for humans to crave an inner sense of peace and need for things to be steady.
When it comes to finding work, some of us get luckier than others as they end up finding their groove within the first attempt. That first job that landed you to all the succeeding opportunities that come your way and the whole life you embrace.
But for some people, it takes years of exploration and self-discovery, loaded with different kinds of experiences from various industries, before getting settled and steady in one place. A lot of us still end up hopping from one job to the next in search of what is so-called “right-fit” and that is the reality.
How do you really find your groove in your career, though? How do you find that one steady job to settle in happily and purposefully?
For Outsourcing Angel VA Apple April Lasola, she found her groove in her online career where she’s worked as a freelance contractor for online clients the past six years.
A registered nurse by profession as per educational background, Apple spent four years of college focused on the idea of working in a hospital (one day). But where she’s spent the past six years of her life obviously says more about having its own mind for Apple; hers is a classic story of life having other plans.
It is interesting to note how Apple managed to nurture a sense of longevity in her online work and career working as a freelance creative for many years. How did she learn all the skills needed to succeed in the business as a virtual assistant given her background in nursing?
Now that she’s been steadily making her clients happy with her work projects, and Outsourcing Angel equally glad to nurture and support her, you could actually wonder at how she got started in the business. Apple shares some tips on how to grow and keep a long-term career in the virtual workplace.
Having found her joy and sense of purpose working as a multi-skilled virtual assistant for 6 years to date, one could pick up some truth about succeeding and finding stability in online work.
Here’s a takeaway: Educational background or even work experiences aren’t solely the determining factors for finding a stable, long-term job that’s right for you. In short, it is not what counts the most. None of these things will be more important than your willingness to start out as a beginner with an eagerness to learn. Most importantly, hard work and determination are key drivers for your long-term success. They will get you further in the virtual workplace and also in life generally.
